Bryn Pottie

Bryn Pottie was born and raised in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. After studying at Humber College under SCTV alumni Joe Flaherty and Robin Duke, Bryn joined Canadian Comedy Award-winning sketch troupe The Boom, with whom he wrote and performed for sold-out Toronto crowds alongside Canadian comedy icons Scott Thompson and Colin Mochrie.

As half of the comedy duo Definition of Knowledge, Bryn appeared in comedy festivals across North America, such as Toronto Fringe, JFL 42, Austin Sketchfest, Toronto Sketchfest, Montreal Ladyfest and Boston’s Women in Comedy Festival. Their debut comedy album, “Gentrify This”, was released by Howl and Roar Records in 2020.

He wrote for two seasons of the animated series “Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs”, and worked as a creative consultant for the Canadian arm of the international animation studio 9 Story Media. In digital and print media, Bryn has been a regular humour contributor to local paper The Lunenburg Barnacle, as well as Canadian satire website The Beaverton.

In 2025, Bryn’s debut novel, The Great Lunenburglary, was published by Moose House Publications to wide acclaim. The Winnipeg Free Press called it “A goofy, joyfully anachronistic, wildly inventive, gut-shakingly funny novel” and Indigo named it one of the best regional Canadian books of 2025.

Also in 2025, “Halfway Haunted”, a short film co-written by Bryn and longtime collaborator Sam Rudykoff, made its debut at the Hollyshorts Film Festival in Los Angeles, and went on to win Best Canadian Short at the Silver Wave Film Festival, and Best International Short at the Central Coast Film Festival.

Bryn lives in Liverpool, Nova Scotia.
